Reading Back to Back

Developed by RHS Biology Teacher Amanda Valenzuela

Reading partners arrange their chairs back to back. While one partner reads a paragraph aloud, the other partner listens without looking at the text, then summarizes the paragraph his or her partner just read. Partners exchange roles and continue reading, listening, and summarizing the text, paragraph by paragraph.

Modifications for struggling readers include: partners sit face to face; both partners have the text in front of them; partners help each other summarize each paragraph.
